We have the ability to create the neck of your dreams. Perhaps you would like to replace the neck on an existing graphite necked bass? Or maybe you plan to commission a custom bass from your favourite luthier and need a through body neck with red, silver and blue weave, a wenge fingerboard and binding? Whatever it is that your heart desires, we can probably make. Hit the button below and talk us about your dream.
Costs:
The above price is exclusive of shipping and non standard materials (e.g. exotic wood fingerboards) and is non-refundable. The price does allow for a single neck from a single, custom mould. If multiple necks are ordered at the same time, the mould building costs can be split between necks and absorbed completely by us for orders of 5 necks or more. This means that if group of five or more players are all interested in the same neck for the same model of bass, they could potentially each have one for the same cost as a standard neck if the only differences are measurements.
Fabrication requirements:
We will need accurate information for your neck. This can take the form of the following (in order of desirability):
1) A sample neck: This will provide us with the most accurate measurements, we'll send it back to you with your Aurok neck in the condition it was recieved.
2) Digital 3d model: This can either be built from scratch or based on a vectorised set of point data from a 3D scan of a sample neck. Headstock shapes need careful scrutiny as does the neck heel. The model should also allow for paint thickness because even just 1mm makes a big difference to the quality of fit to the neck pocket.
3) In house model: We can make a model but this process carries the highest risk for error if paint thickness on your original neck is unknown or there is complex geometry to the headstock shape. This process will carry a non-refundable £135 upcharge to cover time building an initial draft model and we will need from you the following information:
i) Width and depth measurements in millimeters at the nut, 12th fret and last fret plus heel width if it's a bolt on neck with a heel that extends beyond the fingerboard.
ii) Heel length from the centre of the end to the shoulder (where the neck profile begins)
iii) Radius to the end of the fingerboard/neck heel and radius to the fingerboard corners.
iv) Fingerboard radius (or radii if you would like a compound radius)
v) An accurate representation of the headstock shape to trace (if needed)
vi) Headstock thickness
vii) Tuner hole diameters (if needed)
Please note we are unable to create multiscale necks for existing instruments using option 3. There are too many variables in the geometry and too much potential for error if any measurements are slightly out. A digital 3d model a far less risky option.
After the initial draft model is complete, we will send you a copy of the model and images to check and verify before we proceed with fabricating the mould. We will make corrections to the model according to one set of comments and feedback. Beyond that, further changes to the original specification will attract an hourly labour charge of £60 per hour.
